Horizon 2020 is the biggest EU Research and Innovation programme ever with nearly €80 billion of funding available over 7 years (2014 to 2020) – in addition to the private investment that this money will attract. It promises more breakthroughs, discoveries and world-firsts by taking great ideas from the lab to the market.
SOGNO addresses the topic "Next generation innovative technologies enabling smart grids, storage and energy system integration with increasing share of renewables: distribution network” (LCE-01-2016-2017) of the call for competitive low-carbon energy (LCE) (H2020-LCE-2017-SGS) within the "Horizon 2020 Work Programme 2016 - 2017”, Societal Challenge 3 "Secure, Clean and Efficient Energy”.
The integrated approach demands, that all demonstration projects shall integrate innovative technology development, innovative Business models, develop plans for market uptake (including scaling-up and replication) and check existing market barriers and work out proposals for solutions (policy, legislation, regulation, etc.).
